Leskin Law's One Day Divorce Mediation uses a hybrid mediation and arbitration forum to ensure that couples complete their divorce in one day. After an initial period of gathering information, and meeting for a Pre-Mediation Conference, the couple meets with a trained mediator who will assist the couple in coming to their own solutions to their differences. In the event the couple cannot agree, the mediator steps into the role of arbitrator, and decides the outstanding issues consistent with Oregon law. In other words, only if you cannot agree, the arbitrator will make a decision for you, same as if you had gone to court. I have been a lawyer in Portland since 1992. I started doing divorce and family law in 2001. I have been around a long time. In my years of practice, I have seen too many times how expensive the process is, how much needless work MUST be done and how expensive this is. I have seen how hard it can be to actually get a judge for a trial. I have seen how the long drawn out process exacerbates the animosities divorce spouses have for each other. And, I have seen how the party with money will more often than not will prevail.
In 2021, I decided that there had to be a better way. The idea for One Day Divorce had been with me for a while, but I decided to create my new law practice around this particular model. I wanted to level the playing field, charge a reasonable fee, and cut the length of time down to months or weeks, from years. I wanted to create a process which gave the parties ownership of their solutions, and took it out of the hands of a third party who is a stranger to them.
I had the opportunity to create this process when I went back into solo law practice in early 2022. I am pleased to say that the results have been outstanding. It is truly gratifying to me to know that I am having a positive impact on people's lives and helping them get to a better place quickly and affordably.
