Firm Overview

At Collins & Hepler, PLC, we approach each case with care and integrity. We are privileged to have enjoyed a long history of service to the Alleghany Highlands and surrounding areas, and we are proud of our record of success. We strive to provide personalized, principled, and aggressive representation, whether defending a simple traffic citation, or pursuing a complex appeal to the Supreme Court of Virginia.

The Collins family has been providing legal services in the Highlands for nearly 100 years. Michael M. Collins, a native of Covington, Virginia, was preceded in the Covington office by his father, Hale Collins (1901-1971), who served twenty years in the Virginia Legislature.

We are proud to be the first law firm in Alleghany and surrounding counties to offer Medicaid estate planning services, as well as assistance and guidance through the Medicaid process, to help you and your loved ones to preserve and maintain the maximum allowable assets and income when faced with nursing home debt.

We are proud to be the only firm to offer a unique farm and land protection strategy involving a combination of specialized trusts and conservation easements, to preserve and protect the sanctity of your land throughout future generations.

Our attorneys have handled hundreds of personal injury claims over the course of decades, and have achieved substantial verdicts and settlements in automobile accident, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, and other cases.

We also bring decades of experience to our criminal defense practice, ranging from traffic infractions and DUI's to serious felonies.

Although firmly anchored in tradition, we embrace technological change and innovation, and we employ and enjoy the advantages of digital advances both in the office and in the courtroom.

At Collins & Hepler, PLC we are a small firm with big abilities. We provide general legal services to the counties of Alleghany, Rockbridge, Botetourt, and Bath, but we will gladly assist with land and farm protection anywhere in the state of Virginia.

Collins & Hepler, PLC is conveniently located across from the Alleghany County courthouse in Covington, Virginia. Please call or email us to schedule a free consultation.

Personal Injury

Let us be your champion for full recovery.

-Automobile Accidents
-Tractor Trailer, Truck, or Bus Accidents
-Medical Malpractice
-Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
-Wrongful Death
-Nursing Home Negligence
-Premises Liability

We realize that a personal injury or wrongful death can be devastating to you and your family. The loss of a loved one, mounting medical bills, the inability to work, the loss of a vehicle, the need for ongoing medical treatment, the inability to perform routine home maintenance and child care, the denial of insurance coverage, the specter of permanent injury - these are just some of the challenges our clients may be facing as a result of a car accident or other personal injury. At Collins & Hepler, we can provide the legal guidance and counsel you will need to help you through this difficult time. We take care to fully assess and maximize the availability of insurance coverage for you, and we provide counsel and advice to help you understand the insurance claims process as well as the judicial process.

At Collins & Hepler, we are not a client "mill" looking for a quick settlement. We give each case the individual and unique handling it deserves. We have a strong history of successful jury verdicts as well as favorable mediations and settlements. We strive to deliver a specialized and personal legal service to our personal injury clients, with the highest standard of quality at the cutting edge of technology and the law, and we always seek to obtain the best possible recovery for each client.

Personal injury cases can require vast hours of attorney time. We understand that most people cannot afford to pay for such work on an hourly basis, which is why, like most lawyers, we handle personal injury and medical malpractice cases on a contingency basis, which means that, when your case is ended, we take for our fee a percentage of whatever settlement or judgment we are able to secure for you. We don't get paid unless and until you do.

We understand that choosing the right lawyer is important to you, so we offer free consultations to prospective personal injury clients, with absolutely no obligation. Simply call us at 540-962-6181 and let the receptionist know that you are calling for a free personal injury consultation, or you may contact us via email at Hepler@collinshepler.com.

If you believe that you may have a personal injury claim, it is in your best interest to speak with an attorney as soon as possible. If you have been injured in an accident, there are things you need to know now in order to protect yourself against insurance company abuses. Don't delay; do yourself a favor and get advice right away. Time is of the essence.

Let us be your champion for full recovery. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident, or if you feel that you may have been the victim of negligent medical malpractice, or if you otherwise suffered a personal injury by the negligence or wrongdoing of another, please call or email us today for a free consultation.
